Feasibility studies underway

Monday 23 April 2018

Fully operational since Q4 of 2017, our Pre-Investment Facilities (PIFs) are currently performing various feasibility studies for Waste valorization, Renewable Energy and LED street lighting infrastructure projects in Africa.
Key components of the R20 Value Chain, Pre-Investment Facilities (PIFs) are innovative financial mechanism established in partnership with corporate partners to help project developers perform feasibility studies and ensure bankability of projects.

Following a screening of project applications from the 100 project Campaign and a field mission to assess and accompany first selected projects through the PIFs’ dedicated processes in October 2017, Boards of both the Waste Project Facilitator (WPF) and the Energy Project Facilitator (EPF) have approved financing and undertaking of feasibility and pre-feasibility studies for various projects in Africa.
Each project has been selected for its high replicability potential. Once feasibility studies are completed, R20 will be able to fast-track and cale up the implementation of similar projects.
Dedicated to Waste projects, the WPF is currently performing 3 feasibility studies for Municipal Waste management infrastructure, which include collecting, sorting and composting facilities, in Loh Djiboua (Ivory Coast), Yamoussoukro (Ivory Coast) and Bamako (Mali). The EPF, which focuses on Renewable Energy projects, is currently undertaking 1 feasibility study for a Hydro Plant in Ekom (Cameroon) and 2 pre-feasibility studies for Solar PV projects in Comoros and Zimbabwe.
While two additional PIF’s, namely the LED Project Facilitator (in partnership with Philips Lighting) and the Wind Project Facilitator (in partnership with the Renewable Energy Hamburg Cluster) are still under development, both are already performing feasibility and pre-feasibility studies for 3 LED street lighting projects and 1 Wind infrastructure project.
