R20, sponsor of the Subnational Climate Finance (SCF) initiative supported by the Green Climate Fund, is seeking an ESG and Impact Analyst for its activities within the SCF initiative and beyond.
The SCF is a blended finance impact fund designed to pursue attractive risk-adjusted returns for private investors while generating measurable and certified environmental and social impacts. The Fund is focused exclusively on pursuing investments in mid-size climate infrastructure with nature-based solutions in various developing countries across Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, the Mediterranean, and Asia. The Fund is managed by Pegasus Capital Advisors, a commercial Private Equity impact fund manager and further benefits from a separate, grant-funded Technical Assistance facility managed by The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and implemented by R20 and Gold Standard.
Reporting to the Director of Programme and working closely with the pipeline team and R20’s partners, the ESG and Impact Analyst will conduct the environmental, Social and Governmental (ESG) screening of infrastructure projects coming into the pipeline as well as oversee the Environmental Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)/ Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) and stakeholder engagement of each project. In addition, the Analyst will analyse and quantify climate impacts of infrastructure projects at city-level in certain regions, countries and sectors based on different investment scenarios.
Role & Responsibilities:
• Screen projects against the Exclusion & Eligibility Criteria
• Risk categorisation according to the GCF’s categories
• Risk screening according to IFC standards
• Impact screening (incl. estimation of SDG impacts according to internationally recognised methodologies if available)
• Check if projects are in compliance with Gold Standard Principles
• Evaluating Nature-based solution components of projects
• Coordinate and oversee ESIAs/ ESDD and stakeholder engagement, including the preparation of findings, procurement, providing guidance to consultants, evaluating results. All ESIAs/ ESDD are conducted according to international standards, typically IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, Gold Standard Safeguarding Principles & Requirements, etc.
• Analyse and report on environmental, social and governance impact of infrastructure projects at city-level in certain sectors in certain regions and countries
Profile:
• 2-4 years of experience in a similar function, either with investment funds, international organisations, or NGOs
• Familiar with international standards, including IFC Performance Standards, Gold Standard, IRIS+, and carbon credits
• Knowledge and working experience in the some of the following sectors a strong preference: renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste management, urban solutions, building, and regenerative agriculture
• Familiar with mid-sized infrastructure projects in the mentioned sectors at city/sub-national level
• Experience or understanding of financing and investment would be an asset
• Passionate about climate mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity, and sustainability with a strong commitment towards a more sustainable world
• Team player, flexible and able to work in a multicultural environment
• Strong skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Proficient English level in writing and speaking. Fluency in other UN languages, especially Spanish, a plus
• Excellent writing, drafting and editing skills
• Minimum a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental science, finance, economics, or international relations
The ideal working station will be Geneva with travels depending on project needs. However, depending on the competence of the candidate, remote work could be considered, and if so, minimum time zone difference a preference.
